Greek football does not appear safe from a large betting scandal either. It now appears that since 2009, 39 games from the Greek Super League and second division have also been fixed. The prosecutor Popi Papandreou is currently investigating competition match fixing.
According to the Greek newspaper, Eleftherotypia, Papandreou has already held discussions regarding the case with four high officials of the European Football Union (UEFA).
The suspected matches were identified through UEFA's electronic warning system. The clubs that participated in the matches involved in the betting scandal do not appear to be major Greek football clubs. On Monday, the Greek Football Federation did not respond to questions regarding the betting scandal.
