The on going European football scandal seems have also taken a foothold in Greece. The European Football Association(UEFA), has informed the Greek Football Federation that the outcome of matches have been fixed. In Greece, the first division match between PAS Ioannina and Panthrakikos Komotini, two lower ranked teams, has come under suspicion.
The Greek Ministry of Sport has already ordered an investigation. "We received a letter from UEFA regarding reports of match fixing in our league," reported the ministry this afternoon to Reuters.
The PAS Ioannina's Board has already responded to the allegations. "We invite everyone to take another look at the match. There were enough chances for both teams, including shots against the post and seven yellow cards were shown. We are very offended because we have been unfairly accused."
UEFA has also stated that the Greek lower divisions should be investigated. In December, it had already been said that 13 matches were being investigated, including two Greek Cup matches. Up to twelve clubs could be involved.
