The Italian footballer, Andrea Masiello of Atalanta, has been suspended for 26 months for his part in the big betting scandal rocking Italy.
Bari and Sampdoria also heard of their hefty penalties in early August. They received penalties of 1 and 5 points deduction respectively. As well as the suspension imposed on Masiello he will also face a fine of thirty thousand euros.
Masiello was not the only one to receive a long suspension as coach Bortolo Mutti and technical director Guido Angelozzi also received a four-month ban.
The defender was found guilty for his part in the match-fixing scandal that now has all of Europe in its grip.
