The European football association, UEFA, has begun investigation into possible large-scale match fixing. The association will evaluate forty matches from the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Cup and the Champions League from the past four years.
UEFA has been informed of a number of irregular betting activities. "It concerns an investigation into the manipulation of results. The investigation will take some time and if necessary, the police will be asked for their coopeartion," said UEFA's Peter Limacher.
Limacher went so far as to say that it concerns mainly clubs from Eastern Europe.
