The Dutch Lotto has again sort justice in connection with bookmaker Unibet offering its customers live betting on football matches via its website. The Dutch Lotto claims that this is contrary to European rules.
Football fans can use the Unibet website to watch Italian Serie A matches free of charge and at the same time offers them the chance to place bets on games. The bets on offer range from gambling on the team which scores first, the next goal scorer to how many yellow and red cards will be shown, or simply the result itself.
Besides Italian football, the bookmaker Unibet also offers betting on other football competitions, including the Belgium league and American football.
In response the Dutch Lotto has informed the Justice Department of the new football betting options offered by Unibet. "According to European legislation, the betting opportunities offered by Unibet are simply not allowed. The Dutch Lotto has these licenses."
