Police in Croatia have indicted 21 people for involvement in corruption in football. Players from the country's top football division are among those arrested by the Croatian authoriites, according to a police statement released on Monday.
The Croatian police questioned several people involved in the betting scandal in early June.
In a police statement it was reported that, "Three suspects named players, coaches and managers they had approached and persuaded to comply with the match-fixing. They received large sums of money to influence the outcome of matches." The three leaders of the bribery scandal are still being held.
Croatia recently announced tough action against corruption and organized crime. This is one of the conditions which must be met if the country wants to join the EU at a later date.
