The Belgian Football Association (KBVB) suspects that the Chinese gambling mob is still active in the professional football league. The KBVB's legal department of justice opened an investigation after a match with an unusual end score, according to several Belgian newspapers. Last Sunday's match in the second division between Olympic Charleroi and Liege FC ended 6-4.
What was quite remarkable was the presence of two Chinese suspects at this match, with a hidden microphone they were in direct contact with Hong Kong. The Chinese were arrested but were later released. The duo was also spotted at matches in Namen, Beveren, Antwerp and Hamme.
Two years ago, Belgian football was under the spell of an alleged bribe scandal. The Chinese businessman Ye Zhuyen placed bets of very significant amounts from China, on relatively unimportant football matches in Belgium. This led to the dismissal of players and coaches from Lierse SK.
